Investing in elite performance – a Humber Business Week eventadam
Pepperells, together with a number of partners from across the public and private sector, will bring an international footballer-turned-private equity investor and the former chief instructor of the Army Medical Services Training Centre together for a Humber Business Week event.
The two panellists will discuss how investing in the health and wellbeing of your staff is critical to achieving elite performance at the event.
Danny Mills (pictured), who played in a World Cup quarter-final, will detail how he has translated the psychological and physical strengths required to reach the highest levels of the profession into meeting the very different demands in the boardroom.
From building a multi-million-pound commercial property portfolio to rescuing West Cornwall Pasty Co. out of administration, Mills’ journey from footballer to entrepreneur has taken him on a journey packed with trials and tribulations.
And Lieutenant Colonel Chris Gibson MBE will detail how the need to understand the stresses and strains being put upon workforces in the most challenges of environments is not just important, but critical. If it can be achieved in a war zone than it can be achieved in business.
Gibson has been a leading advisor on the strategic development, training and delivery of the most-successfully deployed trauma hospitals in history and in 2014 he was the lead for all UK personnel deployed to West Africa to combat the Ebola outbreak. More recently he has successfully assisted the London Ambulance Service out of Special Measures through the implementation of a novel coaching and mentoring programme for executives.
Pepperells is joined by East Riding of Yorkshire Council – Workplace Health and Wellbeing and Behaviour Change, Humberside Offshore Training Association (HOTA), Latus, Navigo Health and Social Care CIC, Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber (RDASH) NHS Foundation Trust and Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) for the Invest in Elite Performance: Health, wellbeing and the bottom line event.
Adam Lovell, development director at Pepperells, said: “Many studies show health and wellbeing programmes increase employee commitment, loyalty and retention and they help reduce absenteeism and presenteeism – productivity gains are proven.
“Workplace wellness programmes add more value than they cost to implement yet despite this many companies stumble as they attempt to implement them.
“Along with our partners we have brought together two people who have achieved many things in high-pressure situations and they will share their stories about how they, and the teams they have worked with, have succeeded. At the heart of their stories is the importance of better health and wellbeing – they will bring this to life for the delegates. We are all looking forward to the event and we know people will make new connections and be inspired.”
The event will be held on Wednesday, June 6 at the recently-opened Allam Medical Building, which is the heart of the University of Hull’s £28m Health Campus. Registration is from 11am, a free, healthy, energy-boosting lunch – provided by Latus Health – will be served at 12.30pm and the event will close at around 1pm.

The two speakers will be followed by a Q&A session to examine how developing better psychological, physiological and philosophical approaches to elite performance can help your business.
Alongside the speakers, Q&A session and free lunch, paramedics will be providing health checks, HOTA staff will be on hand to allow people to practice their CPR skills, Pepperells will be detailing the health and wellbeing programme being implemented by the firm, RDASH will be explaining wellbeing research which has been completed in conjunction with industry, business and the community and East Riding Council will park its Health Bus outside the venue and provide information about the assistance available to help create a healthier workplace.
