CONFECTIONERS TO CORPORATE SOLICITOR
Pepperells are delighted to be celebrating new female additions to their Corporate Law team, in
what the firm has noticed, is a growing trend of women embarking on careers within the
Corporate and Commercial legal departments.
Jessica McKenzie qualified in August of 2022 and began her working life initially as an
Architectural Technician, though due to the economic climate, Jessica had a change of career
and set up her own confectionary business in Beverley, she quickly saw success in her venture
and later expanded her team and developed a vintage tea room in the stunning surrounds of a
stately home in the East Riding of Yorkshire. She explains that this experience has given her
invaluable insight into how to set up, run and grow and operate a business. Knowledge that she
now uses every day to advise her corporate clients.
Her inspiration to become a Corporate Solicitor came when she spoke to an Employment
Judge and read a book titled “Letters to a Law Student” which together ignited her interest in a
legal career. She completed her Law Degree when her daughter was only 9 months old, Jessica
went on to complete her LPC LLM at Nottingham Trent University and completed her Masters
Degree in alternative business structures.
Jessica went on to work for a Shipping Firm in Hull, dealing with commercial contracts,
negotiating terms of business and advising landlords on leases and license agreements before
joining Pepperells.
Jessica says “I find it really easy to relate to my clients and their needs. Being a former business
owner I can understand the challenges that businesses face and by using my knowledge of the
Law I enjoy supporting them in all areas of their business planning.
Pepperells have a well established team of Corporate and Commercial Law experts, supporting
clients from across the UK with their business needs.
