Growth strategy continues as pan-Humber law firm Pepperells incorporates

Full-service, pan-Humber law firm Pepperells has completed the latest phase of its strategic growth strategy by incorporating as a limited company.

The move will strengthen the company’s position in its core geographies and disciplines while at the same time giving its management team increased flexibility to respond to customer requirements and regulatory changes.

Ben Pepperell, who will take on the role of chief executive while retaining a significant high net worth personal and corporate client base across the region, said: “This is the next stage in the evolution of Pepperells as a business. It follows the acquisition and assimilation of two solicitors’ firms in Hull and more recently the expansion of our geographic offer – we are truly pan-Humber now with offices in Hull, Grimsby and Scunthorpe.

“Our expansion into new territories and the continuous addition of new and complementary capabilities will be supported by the greater transparency being a limited company offers – both for our customers and our staff. Ultimately, we believe it gives us greater flexibility as a business to respond in a rapidly changing market place.

“There are many regulatory matters which are driving change in the legal services sector but equally-pressing are commercial requirements around investment, succession planning, risk management and strategic development.

“We have always been nimble and responsive but the new structure allows us to better take advantage of the opportunity all this change brings – we are better equipped to meet the needs of our customers and our staff.”

The incorporation has already driven change with the creation of strategic development proposals for all the company’s business units. This follows significant investment in new communications infrastructure and customer support services.

Pepperell said: “We now move to executing our plans in a collegiate way to further secure the medium and long-term future of the business and meet the rightly increasing demands of our clients.

“We can better become strategic partners for life for all our clients we currently work with, and for all those who choose Pepperells in the future.”

The newly formed limited company has a board of directors made up of solicitors Ben Pepperell, Rosemary Houghton, David Kemshall, John Gardham, Simon Davies and Ryan Crellin. Pepperells founder Stewart Pepperell remains active as an advisor to the board.

The management team has been further strengthened by the appointment of Julia Dixon as communications director and Adam Lovell as development director.

David Kemshall, who will take the role of chief operating officer, and have the primary responsibility for business development in Scunthorpe and Grimsby, says: “There is a massive opportunity for this region and while we will continue to work with our clients as we always have this move gives us a greater focus on growth.

“The opportunity is very real for us to grow as strategic partners, offering our clients the best possible service across the numerous disciplines we offer. We have a robust team and this more effective and efficient structure will enable us to work much closer with our clients.

“The Northern Powerhouse movement has still not quite had the same impact in this region as elsewhere across the north, but here the opportunity is greater and we hope to be part of that, answering the questions our clients ask and supporting economic growth, helping to drive prosperity and wealth creation.

“We firmly believe we can be at the heart of any development of this region and look forward to expansion further and faster across the coming years.”
