The above costs may be raised if the matter is particularly complex. Factors that may make a case more complex include:

  • Making or defending applications to amend claims or provide further information about an existing claim
  • Defending claims that are brought about by litigants in person (a person acting without representation)
  • Making or defending a costs application
  • Complex preliminary issues
  • The number of witnesses and documents
  • If it is an automatic unfair dismissal claim, i.e. if you are dismissed after blowing the whistle on your employer
  • Allegations of discrimination which are linked to the dismissal.

Disbursements are costs related to your matter that are payable to third parties, such as medical reports. We handle these payments on your behalf to ensure a smoother process. We will advise you at the earliest opportunity if there is likely to be any disbursements associated with your matter.

It may be that there are funding options available, for example you may have cover under an insurance policy. We will discuss this with you at our first appointment.

The above costs quoted are charged on an hourly basis.

Simon Davies’ hourly rate is £260 plus VAT

Stephen Orridge’s hourly rate is £260 plus VAT

Richard Smith’s hourly rate is £260 plus VAT

Victoria Neale hourly rate is £220 plus VAT

How long will my matter take?

The time it takes from first meeting you to the resolution of your matter is largely dependent on what stage your case is resolved. It may be that a settlement is reached before trial. This might take between 6-12 weeks. If your claim proceeds to a final hearing at the Employment Tribunal, it may take 6 to 9 months. COVID-19 related backlogs may mean that cases take longer still. This is, of course, an estimate and we will be able to give you a more accurate timescale once we know the circumstances of your case.
